Research Interests:

The interest of our clinical/translational laboratory can be summarized into three major scientific themes as follows: (1) Contribution of psychological, social and physiological basis of weight gain and obesity, body composition and implications in the modulation of steroid hormones and cancer risk/survival; (2) The role of nutrients and nutrient-derived agents and other promising therapeutic agents in cancer chemoprevention and evaluating the mechanism of action, and; (3) Understanding the bio-behavioral etiology of cancer disparities and developing and testing the safety and efficacy of novel transdisciplinary interventions to reduce, and ultimately eliminate, these disparities.

Ongoing projects include, Phase II Clinical Trial of (1) Purified Isoflavones in Prostate Cancer: Comparing Safety, Effectiveness and mechanism of action between African American and Caucasian men; (2) Polyphenon E in Prostate Cancer; (3) n-3 fatty acids in cancer cachexia: Molecular Based Approach in Treating Cancer Cachexia and (4) Thyroid Function & Breast Cancer Risk.

Clinical Interests:

Symptom management and prevention, reduction of co-morbidities in the cancer patient and survivors with special emphasis in developing molecular based approaches to evaluating interventions in cancer cachexia, chemobrain and subclinical hypothyroidism. Our interests also include developing and implementing intervention strategies to reduce risk of prostate and breast cancers in high risk populations.
