Application Process

Moffitt's International Visiting Scholar's Program has suspended application submittals until October 1, 2010.  All IVSP-related correspondence will be returned and processed after October 1, 2010.

Eligibility

  • IVSP application and objective statement
  • English Proficiency (visiting scholar should be able to verbally communicate in English with all staff).  Proof of TOEFL score and/or personal interview to verify English proficiency
  • Valid Visa, copies of passport ID, I-94 card must be presented upon arrival
  • Approval from MMG Members and IVS Program
  • Required Oncology background
  • Completion of medical school in good academic standing
  • Current Official transcripts (English and in language of origin)
  • Provide current support/recommendation letter from home institution and institution of employment
  • Verification of funds (minimum of $1,000 a month is required for living expenses)
  • Provide proof of personal health insurance coverage
  • TB Screening

Scholar Responsibilities

  • Requirement to attend Grand Rounds, Seminars and Conferences
  • Observe outpatient clinics, the operating room, in-patient rounds with assigned MMG member
  • No Direct Patient Contact (Interaction with patients is limited to observation only)
  • Travel, lodging and living expenses are the responsibility of the scholar
  • Immunization verification and TB screening required prior to start of observership
  • Scholar must show proof of health insurance (example: gatewayinsurance.com) and is responsible for his or her own health care
  • Scholar must attend IVSP orientation prior to start of observership
  • Upon approval, scholar must schedule orientation with IVS program; ALL orientations are held on the first business day of each month

Observers are not permitted to:

  • Perform medical evaluation
  • Patient consenting, treat or provide management of a patient
