Clinical Interests:
Dr. Miguel Alvelo-Rivera recently joined the Moffitt team, coming from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Alvelo-Rivera specializes in minimally invasive approaches to thoracic surgical conditions, with emphasis on: lung cancer, Mesothelioma, esophageal and bronchial laser procedures, photodynamic therapy, mediastinal surgery, surgery of the chest wall, airway/esophageal stenting and palliative procedures for cancer patients. Dr. Alvelo-Rivera has performed over 300 minimally invasive esophagectomies, and over 300 minimally invasive lung resections including segmentectomy, lobectomy and pneumonectomy. He also has an interest in palliation of thoracic malignancies in patients with unresectable tumors by utilizing minimally invasive procedures.
