Breast cancer diagnosed at an early stage is very treatable with excellent survival rates. The key to early detection is regular breast cancer screening.
Screening mammography is the only test that has been shown to lower mortality by as much as 40%. We recommend screening mammography for all women to start at age 40 every year. Women with strong family history or major risk factors need to consult their breast specialist to talk about screening options.
Breast screening can include:
- Breast self-examination
- Breast physical examination by trained health care provider
- Mammography
- Breast MRI
