Gallbladder cancer can be diagnosed through a number of sophisticated tests, including the following:
- Endoscopic or laparoscopic ultrasound
- Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
- Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography and percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography
- PET scan
- Cholangioscopy
Identifying the stage of disease – how far advanced it is and whether it is has spread to nearby organs – is an important step in planning the appropriate treatment.
