Dr. Basil Cherpelis is a dermatologist in the Department of Cutaneous Oncology at Moffitt Cancer. He is an associate professor in the Departments of Dermatology and Oncologic Sciences at the University of South Florida College of Medicine.
Dr. Cherpelis’ research and clinical interests include melanoma and other skin cancers. He is a specialist in Mohs surgery, an advanced procedure for skin cancer removal.
Dr. Cherpelis was valedictorian of his class and graduated summa cum laude from St. John’s University in New York. He went to medical school at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine, where he graduated magna cum laude and was named to the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society.
Dr. Cherpelis then completed his residency and was chief resident at the USF College of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery and cosmetic surgery at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
A fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American College of Mohs Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology, Dr. Cherpelis is a frequent guest lecturer and is widely published.
