CANCER IMAGING POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM

Robert J. Gillies, Ph.D., Co-Chair of Radiology and Director of Molecular & Functional Imaging at Moffitt Cancer Center is the Course Director for the new Cancer Imaging Program.

Applications are now being accepted for post-doctoral fellowships in Cancer Imaging to begin summer/fall, 2010. This program is limited to young scientists who earned, or expect to earn, their terminal degree (M.D. or Ph.D.) after June 2007. Applicants should have a strong record of productivity in either cancer research or imaging science.

The deadline for applications is January 15, 2010. Appointments will be announced by March 1, 2010, and fellows will be expected to begin their appointments by September 1, 2010.

This is designed as a two-year program for cross-training in Cancer Biology and Imaging Science. It will involve:

Didactic coursework. This will include a core course in Cancer Imaging Science and an additional course in a specific focus area defined by the trainee.
Journal club. All fellows will meet weekly to discuss the latest findings in cancer imaging. Each fellow will be expected to read one current paper per week to be presented in brief, as well as 3 to 4 in-depth presentations per year.
Seminar series. Fellow will be expected to help host outside speakers.
Grant writing and research ethics. Fellows will participate in regular workshops focused on grant writing and research ethics.
Active mentoring. Fellows will meet with a mentoring committee every 3 months for feedback and to prepare them as independent principal investigators.

Fellows will be provided a stipend (consistent with NIH training grant scale) plus a research budget for 2 years. Applicants will be appointed within the Department of Radiology and establish an affiliation as members of a research program within the Moffitt Cancer Center.
