Biographical Information
Associate Center Director, Cancer Prevention and Control, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute
Research Interests: Genes and environmental factors interacting to influence pathogenesis of malignancy, primarily breast, ovarian and lung tumors; mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2 to common genetic polymorphisms in xenobiotic and DNA repair pathways and modifiable exposures such as obesity, diet and hormone drug use.
Education:
M.P.H., School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Tulane University
Ph.D. in Epidemiology, Tulane University
Postdoctoral work in genetic epidemiology, Louisiana State University Medical Center
Publications: Dr. Sellers has published more than 140 full-length, peer-reviewed original articles in prestigious publications such as the New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association, as well as the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. He has also authored, or contributed to, more than 11 books.
Awards & Honors: Dr. Sellers has received numerous honors and awards over his 20-year career, including the Bush Foundation Excellence in Teaching Program; the Paul N. Larson Memorial Lecture, University of Minnesota; Alpha Theta Lecture - University of Mississippi; and the James B. Knight Memorial Lecture. He is an elected member of the American Epidemiological Society.
He has served on special study sections, advisory committees and workshops for the National Cancer Institute, as well as external advisory boards at UNC Chapel Hill, Case Western Reserve, M.D. Anderson and the American Cancer Society.
