Biostatistics Core
Overview

The mission of the Biostatistics Core is to provide expert statistical analytic collaboration and support to Cancer Center investigators. The statistical needs of cancer researchers encompass research/protocol design and data analysis for clinical trials; for epidemiologic, cancer prevention and control; and for basic science studies. These services accelerate discoveries from bench to bedside in a way that maximizes the benefit (scientific, clinical and societal) and minimizes the cost (patients, time and resources) of cancer research. The input of statisticians is critical to the scientific quality of much of the research, especially for clinical trials and other patient-related studies.
The core’s support of research efforts ranges in scope from simple consultations to more in-depth collaborations, depending on the nature of the required assistance. Support can vary from cursory advice and discussion on a study problem to lengthier, more involved interactions and collaborations. These include discussion of the problem at hand and investigation and development of new methodology to properly address the research issues involved. The core seeks to meet the needs of cancer center members, but especially focuses on providing comprehensive collaboration in the scientific process.
