Liver Cancer Recurrence

Liver cancer recurrence happens when cancerous cells reappear after a patient’s cancer treatment has been completed and the patient has experienced a period of remission. Cancer recurrence that is detected early is often easiest to treat, which is why a physician will create a follow-up care schedule. This schedule may include regular physical exams, blood tests and imaging tests, such as ultrasounds, CT scans or MRIs.

In order to reduce the risk of liver cancer recurrence, a physician may also suggest certain lifestyle changes. Typically, the physician will recommend that patients in remission stop smoking and refrain from consuming large amounts of alcohol. Other suggestions may include maintaining a healthy weight, exercising moderately and eating a well-balanced diet. While taking these precautions will not prevent cancer from reappearing, making these lifestyle changes can assist with a patient’s recovery process and also lower the chances of a liver cancer recurrence.
