Dr. Kirtane screening patient for head and neck cancer

Metformin is in a class of drugs called biguanides. Metformin helps control the amount of glucose in the blood. It decreases the amount of glucose patients absorb from food and the amount of glucose made by the liver, as well as increases the body’s response to insulin, a natural substance that controls the amount of glucose in the blood.

The objective of clinical trial MCC 21940 is to help researchers determine the historical response to metformin intervention that can stop changes in the mouth related to pre-cancer growths in the mouth.Dr. Christine Chung

Dr. Christine Chung, chair of the Department of Head and Neck-Endocrine Oncology, is the principal investigator for this trial.
