With New Wesley Chapel Location, Moffitt Offers Hybrid Care Setting

For the first time, Moffitt Cancer Center will provide its oncology services north of its home campus when its Wesley Chapel satellite location opens on Feb. 15. The new facility, Moffitt at Wesley Chapel, is located on the campus of AdventHealth, and will bring a range of services closer to patients who live north of Tampa.

Moffitt will occupy nearly 28,000 square feet of the new building that features 20 exam rooms, 22 infusion chairs, three blood draw stations, two linear accelerators and a CT Simulator. Patients will be able to access blood draw, infusion, medical oncology, radiation and surgical oncology consultations at the new location.

In effect, the new building off Bruce B. Downs near the Shops at Wiregrass will showcase a multi-specialty model in cancer care.

Moffitt at Wesley Chapel is housed in the building to the right of AdventHealth's main entrance and occupies the first two floors on the right side of the building.

“I’m looking forward to embarking on this new model of care,” said Dr. Vania Phuoc, one of the lead Hematology/Oncology physicians at Moffitt at Wesley Chapel. “Moffitt’s satellite program in partnership with AdventHealth provides wonderful opportunities for Moffitt’s growth, community outreach and expansion of services offered to meet the needs of our patients.”

Upon its opening on the AdventHealth campus, Moffitt at Wesley Chapel's services will include malignant and benign hematology, the breadth of solid tumor oncology, gynecologic oncology, endocrinology and more. Future growth of multi-specialty services offered at the site will be based on the needs of the community.

“Satellite locations like the new Moffitt at Wesley Chapel clinic offer a new, hybrid care setting, bridging the space between typical community private practice and academic centers,” Phuoc said. “Lead physicians at this new clinic follow a multi-specialty model where they can focus on a select set of disease types.”

Phuoc added that the multi-specialty model allows providers to have more clinical focus and the capability of incorporating novel research and treatments while covering a larger range of diagnoses to improve patient access to Moffitt’s high-quality cancer care.

Eventually, according to Jazmin Calzada, director of clinical operations at Moffitt at Wesley Chapel, the new location will eventually offer clinical trials.

“Phase 3 trials will be conducted and eventually we’ll move toward more complex trials in the future,” she said.

The new facility is staffed with Moffitt team members and physicians, who will work closely with on-site radiology and lab processing services provided by AdventHealth.

While the newest satellite location will be most convenient for residents living in Pasco County and areas north of Tampa. All patients are welcome to receive treatment at Moffitt at Wesley Chapel.
