Meet Chuck

Acute Myeloid Leukemia Cancer Patient

"There are angels at work on every floor of the hospital."

In 2016 Chuck was diagnosed with an aggressive form of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). He was immediately referred to Moffitt and then things moved fast. The primary focus was chemotherapy to get his cancer in remission and make him eligible for a blood and bone marrow transplant.

Without any family matches, Chuck turned to Be The Match, a registry of potential blood stem cell donors.

Chuck was a little skeptical as to how a stranger could match him, but soon they found his donor at a perfect 12 for 12 match. Throughout his entire treatment, Chuck had tried to stay positive, but this match gave him the morale boost he needed.

"We can get through a lot if we stay positive and just focus on where we're trying to get to."
