Immunotherapy Clinical Trials
Immunotherapy clinical trials are continually bringing promising new treatments to patients with many different types of cancer. These novel cellular therapies fight cancer by harnessing the power of the body’s natural immune system.
Many immunotherapies are available to patients only through clinical trials. Therefore, these research studies are vital not only to helping patients access the immune-based therapies they need, but also to accelerate the drug development and approval process for the benefit of all present and future cancer patients.
The dedicated research staff at Moffitt Cancer Center continues to lead the way in understanding the complexities of cancer detection and treatment. Our goals are to quickly make any of the insights we gain available to our patients through clinical trials and to ultimately advance the standard of care for all patients. As the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center based in Florida, Moffitt has received the highest level of recognition for cancer research.
Patients are encouraged to consider participating in immunotherapy clinical trials at Moffitt for several reasons. For instance:
- Immunotherapy represents a new approach to cancer treatment; by participating in a clinical trial, a patient may have an opportunity to be among the first to access a potentially effective novel treatment and also help to bring that treatment to more patients in the future.
- Our clinical trial participants are closely monitored by a multispecialty team of experts who collaboratively develop highly individualized treatment plans. In this way, we ensure that each patient has access to multiple expert opinions, receives the most appropriate treatments and dosages and has the support necessary to manage any side effects that might occur.
- There are still some unmet needs in cancer treatment, particularly for advanced conditions. Immunotherapy has shown much promise and is a source of hope for many patients – especially those who have not benefitted from other options.
Moffitt’s significant contributions to the prevention and cure of cancer are based on compassion for our patients with an emphasis on collaboration and a culture of scientific excellence. We firmly believe that, with the immune system on our side, we are getting closer to beating cancer for good.
