Dear Friends,

It is an exciting time for the George Edgecomb Society. Today we begin our celebration of Black History Month. We are still early in 2023, but we can already tell that many successes lie ahead. Through your generous support, we continue to launch new initiatives, support impactful research studies and make momentous progress in our efforts to reduce cancer health disparities, with the ultimate goal of achieving better outcomes for all patients.

In this issue of our newsletter, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the Moffitt Health Equity Partners initiative and how the cancer center and local businesses are collaborating to improve health equity across Tampa Bay. Since its inception last October, MHEP has had great success, with several businesses joining the corporate membership program.

We're excited to also highlight Moffitt's new diversity committee in this issue. Formed by the Patient and Family Advisory Council, the committee was created to ensure patients of all ethnicities, nationalities and gender identities are represented throughout the organization.

You will also find stories about a first-of-its kind study on prostate cancer in Black men, a recent gift to support health equity research in colorectal cancer, Moffitt's Men's Health Huddle event and more!

We look forward to the bright new year ahead as we partner to address cancer health disparities and ensure equal access to the highest-quality cancer care. To help drive that change, please consider making a gift online or call the Moffitt Foundation directly at (813) 745-4017.

Thank you for supporting the George Edgecomb Society!

Regards,

Dr. Patrick Hwu
