Summer VolunTeen Program

Applications will open on February 6, 2023, and will close at 5 p.m. on February 20, 2023.

The VolunTeen program is for students ages 15-17, who have completed their first year of high school, and is designed to expose teens to healthcare careers while receiving hands-on volunteer experience. For those students 18 years of age at the time of application, you are encouraged to apply to the student/adult program for the summer session. 

This year we are excited to offer a new structure for our Summer VolunTeen Program! This year’s program will provide teens with a unique opportunity to learn about the inner workings of Moffitt Cancer Center.  VolunTeens will also learn about Moffitt’s values and how our values are actualized in the work we do every day.  During the summer program, teens will be involved in a project and will be required to give a presentation about their experience.

During the 2022 summer program, teens were involved in a video project focused on interviewing Moffitt staff and learning about the diverse career opportunities at the center. Several of the careers profiled begin right after high school graduation. Moffitt offers team members a tuition reimbursement program that can help you pay for college, while also building your career. The videos were produced, directed, filmed and edited by our VolunTeens!

The VolunTeen Program will be offered in two 4-week sessions (Summer A and B), Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., each week.

• Summer A Session will run from June 5 to June 29, 2023
• Summer B Session will run from July 10 to August 3, 2023

Teens will participate in either Summer A OR B, not both. Session preference will be requested on the electronic application. Applicants must be at least 15 years of age and have completed ninth grade at the time of application. 

The application is a two-part process: Electronic application submission is due by 5 p.m. on February 20, 2023, and the VolunTeen applicant packet is due by 5 p.m. on March 3, 2023.  

Interviews will be conducted via zoom during the weeks of March 13 and 20.  Acceptance into the VolunTeen program is limited and competitive. 

Teens accepted into the program will be required to:

• Attend a mandatory orientation  
• Purchase a VolunTeen uniform shirt for $15
• Provide proof of a negative TB screening and immunization records. Documentation is due by April 15.
