Do patients need to make an appointment, or can they just walk up?
Yes, they need an appointment. Once we confirm a date to bring the Mobile Lung Screening Unit to your location we will provide you with handouts to promote the event and give your community members instructions on how to book their screening.
-
What should we expect?
Fill out the Partner Interest form to request Moffitt's Mobile Lung Screening Unity at your organization or event. Once you submit the form, our coordinator will contact you to find a date and go over logistics.
-
How often should we offer lungs screenings in our community?
Once a year, it is recommended that people who are at high-risk get a yearly lung screening. We would like to partner with you to bring our mobile unit to your location annually.
-
How long does it take to get a Lung CT scan?
On the mobile unit or at one of our campuses it only takes approximately 10-15 mins from patients' arrival to departure.
-
Why should people get their lungs screened?
Moffitt recommends lung cancer screenings because they can help find potentially cancerous abnormalities before they cause symptoms. Routine screenings can detect even the smallest abnormalities in lung tissue. Early detection can lead to early interventions and better outcomes and a higher quality of life.
-
Who is eligible for a lung screening?
Current or former smokers who have smoked for 20 years or more and those ages 50 or older who have smoked 20-pack years are considered high-risk. (To measure a pack year, multiply the number of packs of cigarettes smoked per day by the number of years smoked).
-
Does insurance cover lung screenings?
Yes, Medicare and most private insurance plans are mandated to cover lung cancer screenings under the Affordable Care Act.
