    Study Title:

Inequities and Trends in Lung Cancer Screening Among People with HIV in the US

    Objective:

Our long-term goal is to facilitate targeted lung cancer prevention strategies tailored to PWH. Our overall objective in this application is to characterize LCS behavioral trends, LCS outcomes, and identify critical multi-level SDoH for future intervention. Our central hypothesis is that LCS behaviors and outcomes are worse among PWH compared to those without HIV, and that key and distinct social factors influence LCS use among PWH, which we will identify through the linkage of comprehensive longitudinal databases. Aim 1: Characterize patterns of LDCT-based LCS (1) uptake, (2) outcomes, (3) follow-up after a positive finding, and (4) longitudinal adherence to LCS comparing PWH to adults without HIV eligible for LDCT. Aim 2: Estimate the direct and indirect effects of individual-, healthcare-, and contextual-level SDoH on LCS uptake and follow-up adherence among LCS-eligible people with and without HIV. Aim 3: Examine racially diverse patients decision making experiences with lung cancer screening through in-depth interviews with PWH eligible for LCS (without cancer) and PWH with lung cancer.

  • Inclusion Criteria

      Key Inclusion Criteria:
    • PWH eligible for LCS based on smoking history (current smoker or quit within the past 15 years with a 20 pack year smoking history) and age range (50-80 years)
    • PWH with a history of diagnosed lung cancer.
  • Exclusion Criteria

      Key Exclusion Criteria:
    • Not meeting all inclusion criteria.
