Bethune-Cookman Students Visit Moffitt

On Friday, July 12, students from the “WIN-HP” (We Invest in your Needs, Health Projects) Program, led by Dr. Danyell Wilson-Howard (Founder and Director of WIN-HP) and Dr. Shirma Ramroop Butts (Assistant Director of WIN-HP) at Bethune-Cookman University visited Moffitt Cancer Center to learn about cancer and explore careers in cancer research and medicine.
The WIN-HP program creates impactful initiatives that use a combination of verbal, written and graphic design strategies to educate the community on various health topics. During their visit to Moffitt, the students presented their latest projects focused on cancer awareness and prevention. A panel of diverse Moffitt professionals evaluated the students' work, providing feedback on both the accuracy and presentation of their campaigns. The panel was blown away by the students' creativity and dedication.
The students also had the opportunity to tour several of Moffitt’s specialized research facilities, including the smoking cessation rooms, exercise lab and core research facilities.
The day concluded with a Moffitt career panel, featuring Dr. Steven Bradley, Dr. Jennifer Binning, Dr. Eleonora Pelle, and Jodie Wong, which allowed the students to deepen their understanding of potential career paths in cancer research and medicine and the practical applications of their academic studies.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in making this event a success, including Moffitt Research Education & Training (RET), judges, career panelists, tour guides and the leadership teams from both Bethune-Cookman University and Moffitt Cancer Center. Your contributions were crucial in making this educational event a success and fostering a meaningful exchange of knowledge and experience.
