20th Annual Miles for Moffitt Hits Record-Breaking Number of Participants
More than 11,000 people participated in the 20th annual Miles for Moffitt presented by AutoNation, raising more than $1.6 million and counting for lifesaving cancer research.
Each year, the event brings together runners, walkers, survivors, caregivers and supporters, all of whom help Moffitt Cancer Center researchers launch innovative projects that lead to groundbreaking discoveries in cancer care.
Supporting Cancer Research
The event was founded in 2006 by Karen Dalton and Priscilla Mack. Over the years, it has helped fund more than 70 pilot research projects.
“It was so inspiring to be with more than 11,000 people who joined us for the 20th annual Miles for Moffitt presented by AutoNation,” said Moffitt Foundation President Maria Muller. “In this milestone year, I’m grateful for the huge outpouring of community support for innovative research by top scientists at Moffitt Cancer Center.”
The number of participants wasn’t the only record set this year. Presenting sponsor AutoNation surpassed its $2 million fundraising goal over the past 10 years.
“AutoNation is honored to support Miles for Moffitt as the Presenting Visionary Sponsor,” said Patrick Terhaar, AutoNation Market President. “AutoNation has been a proud partner of Moffitt Cancer Center for many years, and we are excited to have raised and donated over $2 million to support its groundbreaking research.”
Spirit of Miles for Moffitt
This year’s festivities included a 10K, 10K wheelchair, 5K run, 5K walk, 1K fun run/walk, Kids Dash with Captain Fear and a special anniversary 15K Challenge.
During the awards ceremony, the cancer center gave the Spirit of Miles for Moffitt award to Team Cordel B, which includes friends and family members of the late Cordel J.Y. Batchelor, a mother, grandmother, attorney and Moffitt patient. Organizers praised the team’s commitment to carrying on her legacy of advocacy for cancer patients.
There’s still time to contribute to Miles for Moffitt. Fundraising will continue through Jan. 31, 2026.
