Congresswoman Laurel Lee was awarded the Moffitt Momentum Award for her exceptional support of Moffitt and her dedication to advancing cancer research and patient care in Florida.

Last week, I joined other Moffitt Cancer Center leaders, researchers, physicians and advocates for our annual Moffitt D.C. Fly-In at the U.S. Capitol. Over a busy and productive two days, several teams met with congressional delegates to share Moffitt’s mission and discuss the important role of federal support in our efforts to save more lives.

Our conversations focused on areas where federal support and collaboration is critical. We highlighted Moffitt’s new Bioengineering Program, which will help us accelerate cancer research and scale cutting-edge therapies to reach more patients faster. In addition, we discussed the importance of federal policies that affect patient care and access.

Our teams were encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive reception from U.S. lawmakers, many of whom expressed their strong commitment to championing Moffitt’s efforts to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer.

U.S. Rep. Laurel Lee hosted the Moffitt team and members of congress for a lively reception at the Florida House on Capitol Hill to raise awareness and highlight our efforts to address the cancer burden in Florida and beyond. Moffitt’s band, The ReMissions, was thrilled to perform a concert on the outdoor terrace, joined by Congressmen Darren Soto and Maxwell Frost on vocals, guitar and drums. We also honored Congresswoman Lee with the Moffitt Momentum Award for her exceptional support of Moffitt and her dedication to advancing cancer research and patient care in Florida.

The annual Moffitt D.C. Fly-In underscores Moffitt’s voice and leadership in the national conversation around cancer care, research and innovation. Forging relationships with policymakers is a critical component to shaping a future where we save more lives and reduce the global cancer burden. We’re so grateful for the federal support that enables up to continue our lifesaving work.
