Moffitt's International Patient Services and Strategic Communications teams help bring Charla sobre Cáncer to life in Puerto Rico.

Talking about cancer isn’t always easy, but it’s always important. That’s why Moffitt Cancer Center travels to Puerto Rico year after year, creating space for education, conversation and connection.

On Saturday, April 5, Moffitt’s Charla sobre Cáncer program returned to San Juan, Puerto Rico, for its annual community event, where more than 100 attendees gathered to learn about the latest developments in cancer.

This year’s talk, led by surgical oncologist Daniel Anaya, MD, focused on liver cancer, including its types, classification, incidence, risk factors, clinical presentation, diagnosis and surgical and multidisciplinary management.  Daniel Anaya, MD

Anaya provided an in-depth analysis of the disease, highlighting the importance of early detection and effective management strategies.

The discussion also covered advanced diagnostic tools and treatment options available at Moffitt to patients facing this complex and challenging disease.

Attendees included patients, survivors and caregivers, who shared their experiences and knowledge, making the program an important resource for everyone involved.

“These events are incredibly valuable for us,” said Maria Delfaus, whose husband received treatment at Moffitt and has been attending the event for years. “They not only provide us with critical information, but also offer a sense of hope and connection. It’s wonderful to know that Moffitt is here, supporting us in Puerto Rico.”

Through events like this, Moffitt continues its mission of educating and supporting the Puerto Rican community in the fight against cancer.
