Moffitt hosts free community health fair and hockey watch party

Moffitt Cancer Center and the National Hockey League drew over 500 people to a community health fair and NHL watch party Thursday.

More than 500 patients, team members and supporters came together on April 17 to celebrate the end of the National Hockey League regular season. In collaboration with the NHL and community partners, Moffitt Cancer Center hosted a free community health fair that culminated with a watch party featuring several NHL games.

Moffitt’s Mole Patrol, head and neck, and mobile lung unit teams screened nearly 80 people for early signs of cancer. Experts Philippe Spiess, MD, and Susan Vadaparampil, PhD, participated in a live panel discussion with industry partners focused on educating the community on the importance of cancer screenings and early detection.

Attendees enjoyed live music, food trucks and carnival games like air hockey and Skee puck. Hockey fans also got to meet NHL alum Brad Lukowich, who won the Stanley Cup with the Dallas Stars in 1999 and the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2004.
