Honoring a Legacy of Compassion at Moffitt

Every day at Moffitt Cancer Center, team members show up for patients and families with empathy, respect and dedication. They listen, support and go the extra mile. 

That’s the kind of care Patti K. Halula championed as a patient and family advisor at Moffitt.  

Known for her compassion, advocacy and dedication, Halula worked tirelessly to ensure that the patient experience was always at the heart of care. 

To honor her legacy, Moffitt created the Patti K. Halula Legacy Award.  

This award recognizes team members who consistently demonstrate passion, kindness and humility in their daily work, whether at the bedside, behind the scenes or in support roles across the organization. 

“Patti had a gift for seeing humanity first. She made everyone feel valued, heard and supported, no matter the circumstances. She was also passionate about helping others and advocating for change, never hesitating to speak up when she saw ways to improve care for our patients and their families,” said Jackie Beaushaw, manager of Moffitt’s patient and family advisory program. “This award is one of the many ways we honor her legacy and continue her mission." 

The award celebrates team members who: 

• Lead with passion, showing genuine commitment to patients, families and colleagues 

• Act with kindness, offering empathy, patience and thoughtfulness in every interaction 

• Embody humility, listening to others, embracing diverse perspectives and putting people first 

“Across our organization, we see extraordinary team members who show up for patients and one another every single day,” said Kathi Barden, patient experience liason at Moffitt. “This award shines a spotlight on the individuals who quietly make a profound difference, those who embody compassion not just as a practice, but as a way of being.”
