Saturday was a day Hannah Lott will never forget. Lott, a patient at Moffitt Cancer Center, was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin lymphoma at the age of 27.

Hannah Lott, right, ran the 5K with loved ones by her side.

“In the beginning my symptoms involved intense shortness of breath and I was on 24-hour oxygen,” she said. “I would normally have to use a wheelchair if I was doing anything that required me to walk for long distances.”

Now in remission, Lott lined up at the starting line of the 5K race at the 19th annual Miles for Moffitt presented by AutoNation.

“I was given a second chance at life,” Lott said. “I now work out throughout the week and complete multiple 5Ks throughout the year to remind myself how far I have come.”

Lott was one of more than 10,000 people who participated in this year’s Miles for Moffitt.

The race’s record-breaking participant number is helping to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer.

The event has raised more than $1.2 million and counting. Each year, the funds are used to help Moffitt researchers launch innovative projects, leading to groundbreaking discoveries in cancer care.

Since 2014, sponsor AutoNation has raised more than $1.6 million. “When we started this, we didn’t realize how many of our associates have been touched by cancer,” said Dave Koehler, AutoNation’s chief operating officer.

The way our team rallies around this and raises funds for cancer is really great to see.

Festivities were hosted by Joshua Rivera of Moffitt, 10 Tampa Bay’s Caitlin Lockerbie and Jamison Uhler, Univision’s Marianny Egurrola and DJ Scott Tavlin. During the awards ceremony, the cancer center gave the Spirit of Miles for Moffitt award to Team Lennar. They were presented the award for their hard work and dedication to the cancer center, raising thousands of dollars for cancer research.

There’s still time to contribute to the 2024 Miles for Moffitt. Fundraising will continue through Jan. 31, 2025.
