Karen Lu, MD, physician in chief, highlighted Moffitt’s role as an expert in the field of cancer and provided the latest and most effective treatments.
“Moffitt is world renown for cancer immunotherapy,” Lu said, “and we have pioneered complex cell therapies that advance cancer care and provide more options for those we serve.”
CAR T Leader

Asmita Mishra, MD
Rep. Aaron Bean welcomed a Moffitt contingent and was curious about the latest and greatest cancer breakthroughs that have been spearheaded by Moffitt. Asmita Mishra, MD, was quick to highlight Moffitt’s work in CAR T-cell therapies.
“Moffitt is a leader in treating blood cancers by reprogramming a patient’s cells, treating them and reinfusing them back into the patient to combat cancer,” Mishra said. “Now that therapy is moving into the solid tumor space and it’s allowing us to reach even more patients.”
Federal Partnership Is Critical
Throughout the visit, conversations with members of congress gave Moffitt representatives a chance to highlight the importance of the federal government’s ongoing support to sustaining its mission. Many congress members were given the opportunity to learn how Moffitt is reaching out into the communities it serves through clinics that not only offer treatment, but access to clinical trials.
