Moffitt Launches Immunotherapy Podcast
More than 30 years ago, the idea of harnessing a patient’s immune system to fight cancer was predominately met with skepticism. A majority of those working in the field thought that the immune system was capable of fighting off only foreign invaders, not tumors. But scientists at the National Cancer Institute set out to explore the idea of cancer immunotherapy, seeking to unleash and amplify the immune system to recognize and kill cancer cells. Fast forward, cancer immunotherapy has transformed cancer treatment and is now widely and successfully used across a variety of cancer types.
The ImmunoVerse is a monthly podcast hosted by Patrick Hwu, MD, Moffitt Cancer Center president and CEO. In the series, Hwu, a world-renowned physician-scientist and tumor immunologist, brings immunotherapy discoveries to life through the voices of those advancing the groundbreaking field.
Each episode of The ImmunoVerse will feature conversations with leading physicians and scientists in the field, including prominent guests like Steven Rosenberg, MD, PhD, of the National Cancer Institute. Through engaging discussions, listeners will meet the visionaries leading the field of immunotherapy, unravel the mysteries of the immune system and explore breakthroughs that are changing lives.

The inaugural episode of The ImmunoVerse launched April 24. Episode 1 features Rosenberg, chief of the Surgery Branch at the National Cancer Institute’s Center for Cancer Research and one of the most prominent figures in cancer research and immunotherapy.
Episodes of The ImmunoVerse will be released monthly and feature experts from Moffitt Cancer Center and its peer institutions from around the world. The podcast is available on all major podcast platforms or at Moffitt.org/Immunoverse.
