As the year comes to a close, we are reflecting on the work that made a difference for patients and teams across Moffitt Cancer Center. New facilities opened and steady progress in care and research helped us reach more people when they needed us most. Let’s take a look back at some of the top moments that helped shape 2025.
Moffitt celebrated the opening of its new clinic in Ruskin on Jan. 10.
Moffitt at Southshore Opens its Doors.
2025 kicked off with the grand opening of Moffitt’s new Southshore facility, a 75,000-square-foot outpatient campus in Ruskin. The center expands access to imaging, radiation therapy, infusions and clinical trials. It is expected to treat nearly 9,000 patients within its first five years of operation.
Lee Moffitt Named Outstanding Citizen of the Year.
In February, H. Lee Moffitt was named Outstanding Citizen of the Year by the Tampa Metro Civitan Club, in recognition of his decades of work improving cancer care in Florida. The honor highlighted how his personal experience with cancer inspired him to create the cancer center, which now provides care and research support for tens of thousands of patients each year.
Magnolia Ball Raises Over $8 Million.
The 30th annual Magnolia Ball drew more than 900 guests and raised more than $8 million to help Moffitt develop groundbreaking and advanced treatments that improve outcomes for cancer patients.
On April 22, the final steel beam was placed atop the Moffitt Discovery & Innovation Center and a 55-ton cyclotron lifted into the vault of the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Proton Therapy Center at Speros.

In April, Moffitt celebrated two milestones at the new Speros campus: The final steel beam was placed atop the research facility, and a 55-ton cyclotron was installed to power the region’s first advanced proton therapy system.
New Podcast Explores Breakthroughs in Cancer Treatment.
The ImmunoVerse, a monthly podcast hosted by Moffitt President and CEO Patrick Hwu, MD, launched in April. In the series Hwu brings immunotherapy discoveries to life through the voices of those advancing the groundbreaking field.
Nursing Mission Control Opens at Moffitt.
Moffitt’s new Nursing Mission Control Center opened its doors in June to improve coordination and patient flow across its hospital units. The space brings together virtual nursing and patient care teams to support more efficient care.
Moffitt’s Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Immunotherapy Department is among the busiest in the nation, performing more than 400 transplants each year.
10,000th Bone Marrow Transplant Marks Key Milestone.
Moffitt marked its 10,000th bone marrow transplant with Sarasota resident Glenn Barich, who had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. After completing chemotherapy, he received a stem cell transplant on Sept. 6 as part of a clinical trial focused on reducing complications.
New Venture Studio Advances Cancer Innovation.
Moffitt launched AccelerOnc Studio, the nation’s first venture studio focused on oncology. The program is designed to turn the cancer center’s research, clinical insights and intellectual property into new companies and technologies that support cancer care.
Moffitt Announces New On-Campus Hotel.
A new 200-room hotel is coming to Moffitt’s McKinley campus to give patients, families, visiting doctors and researchers a convenient place to stay. The $84 million project is expected to open in 2028 and meet a significant portion of the lodging demand generated by Moffitt each year.
More than 11,000 people attended the 20th annual Miles for Moffitt on Nov. 22 at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa.
Brachytherapy Suite Opens at Moffitt.
The Richard Gonzmart Brachytherapy Suite opened in October and allows all steps of a brachytherapy procedure to happen in one location while the patient remains under anesthesia. The suite uses internal radiation “seeds” that target tumors more precisely and help spare healthy tissue.
Miles for Moffitt Celebrates 20 Years with Record Number of Participants.
More than 11,000 people took part in the 20th annual Miles for Moffitt event, raising over $1.6 million for cancer research.
