Photo of the Week: Hockey Fights Cancer
For 25 years, the National Hockey League has honored those impacted by cancer through its Hockey Fights Cancer initiative. On Nov. 30, the Tampa Bay Lightning hosted the annual Hockey Fights Cancer Night game at AMALIE Arena. In partnership with Moffitt Cancer Center, the night beautifully highlighted cancer patients and survivors, while pausing to remember those whose lives were cut short by the terrible disease.
The 2023 edition of the NHL's initiative was as memorable as they come. Moffitt patients and survivors were recognized throughout the evening. The Bolts presented Moffitt founder H. Lee Moffitt and Foundation President and Chief Philanthropy Officer Maria Muller with a $30,000 donation representing funds raised through the team’s 50/50 raffle to help benefit cancer research and patient services.
Several brave survivors participated in a touching pre-game ceremony on the ice with Lightning players, while others got the chance to visit the radio booth and ride on the Fan Zam.
