Can you believe it? Miles for Moffitt, presented by AutoNation, is just days away! Each year, thousands of Moffitt Cancer Center supporters, patients and team members lace up their shoes to run, walk or wheel for a great cause — funding lifesaving cancer research. Since 2006, the event has raised over $13 million, and we hope to add another $1.7 million this year.

As thousands prepare for one of Moffitt’s premier fundraising events, held in downtown Tampa, here are a few tips to help you prepare. Hint: New this year will be separate start and finish lines.

Arriving early is the key!

To avoid the 5 a.m. road closures along the race route, participants should arrive early. This will give you time to pick up your packet information, become familiar with the course and warm up with Zumba. Arriving early will also allow those who haven’t registered to do on-site registration. Race Village will open at 6 a.m.

Finding parking or carpooling

Avoiding parking hassles can make all the difference on race day. This year, 717 Parking Enterprises has generously donated the use of their 11 downtown Tampa lots to support Miles for Moffitt, with all parking fees going directly to the cause.

In addition to the 717 lots, participants can park in several nearby garages, including Pam Iorio, the Tampa Convention Center, Channelside and more.

If you’re part of a team, consider carpooling for a smoother experience and easier access to the event.

Know your event start time and location

A successful day starts with knowing your event’s start time. Whether participating in the 10K, 5K or 1K, being at the starting line promptly will help alleviate stress.

This year, the start line for the 10K and 5K has moved to the corner of Brorein and Morgan streets. The 10K kicks off at 7 a.m., followed by the 5K at 8 a.m., 5K walkers at 8:20 a.m. and the 1K at 8:40 a.m. The finish line will be on Channelside Drive in front of the Pam Iorio Parking Garage.

Kids can look forward to racing Captain Fear in the Kids Dash starting at 10 a.m. on Morgan Street.

Each participant will receive a race bib detailing their event’s start time and location, ensuring they’re well prepared for race day.

Dress comfortably

If Miles for Moffitt begins with chilly weather, consider layering with a light jacket, hoodie or sweater that you can easily remove — and even discard if needed — as you warm up during the event. Choosing the right footwear is also crucial. Ensure you have a comfortable pair of running or walking shoes that can handle the distance.

Fuel up and hydrate

Proper fueling and hydration before and after the event are essential for comfort, safety and performance. Many participants may not realize the critical role fluids play. Find refreshments in the Miles for Moffitt race village to help stay energized and hydrated throughout the event.

Get interactive

Even if you’re not participating in the many Miles for Moffitt events, we hope you enjoy the team hangout area (bragging rights for the most spirited teams), free skin screenings with Moffitt’s Mole Patrol, food trucks, Miles for Moffitt merch, a photo booth, spirit activities for the entire family and more. Join our Miles for Moffitt Facebook group and share your photos on social media using #MilesforMoffitt.

There’s still time to register for Miles for Moffitt and join thousands in downtown Tampa on Nov. 23 and move for what matters. For more information, visit MilesforMoffitt.com.
