Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at Moffitt Cancer Center. Our team is proud to serve as an integral part of the innovative, patient-centered care provided at one of the nation’s premier cancer centers. Guided by Moffitt’s mission to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer, we are dedicated to advancing care and improving outcomes for every patient we serve.

Our department is comprised of four specialized divisions: Anesthesiology, Interventional Pain, Critical Care and Perioperative Medicine. Each of these areas plays a vital role in ensuring that our patients receive the highest level of personalized, state-of-the-art care throughout their surgical and oncological journeys. From preoperative assessments to pain management and critical care interventions, our team is committed to optimizing patient safety, comfort and recovery.

Moffitt’s Anesthesiology and Critical Care team provides services for more than 25,000 patients each year. Our anesthetic approach is tailored to each type of oncologic surgery, allowing us to deliver specialized care for a wide range of procedures, including genitourinary, neuro, thoracic, gynecologic, breast, orthopedic, sarcoma, ENT, esophageal, pancreatic and hepatobiliary surgeries. Additionally, we are privileged to support non-surgical patients during procedures such as endoscopy, colonoscopy and bone marrow biopsies.

As a department deeply committed to education, we are dedicated to training the next generation of physicians and APPs. We take pride in fostering academic excellence and mentorship through various educational initiatives, including the USF College of Medicine Medical Student Rotations, Interventional Pain Fellowship, Grand Rounds, Visiting Professorships and the annual Foundation Fund Research Award.

Our commitment to research and innovation is at the forefront of our mission. We are actively engaged in cutting-edge research initiatives that focus on patient safety, healthcare disparities and patient wellbeing. Our faculty and research teams advance the science of perioperative, pain, and critical care medicine through clinical trials and translational research. By integrating the latest evidence-based practices, we strive to continuously enhance patient care and drive meaningful improvements in surgical, pain and critical care outcomes.
