Message from the Director of Education

Welcome to the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Education at Moffitt Cancer Center. We are proud to be part of the education and development of the next generation of anesthesiologists, pain physicians, nurse anesthetists and anesthesiologist assistants. Our team is dedicated to providing stellar education to every student who passes through our doors.

Through our partnership with USF, NOVA and South University, we take pride in fostering academic excellence and mentorship for future physicians and APPs alike. Third- and fourth-year medical students, SRNAs, SAAs and Interventional Pain fellows all learn the nuances of Oncologic Anesthetic management while rotating with us. We deliver this specialized care over a large variety of oncologic surgeries, including Thoracic, Gynecologic, Orthopedic, Sarcoma, Pancreatic, Hepatobiliary, Neurologic, Genitourinary and ENT specialties.

The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care is also committed to encouraging interest in medicine by providing high-quality shadowing opportunities for undergraduate students thinking about a career in medicine. From our Preoperative Anesthesia Clinic to the Operating Rooms and Intensive Care Units, our shadow students get firsthand experience and see what it takes to provide outstanding care to our patients throughout the perioperative period.

Moffitt Cancer Center’s emphasis on research and innovation is at the center of our mission to provide excellent education. We provide many opportunities to all students to participate in a variety of research projects. Our students have engaged in case reports, observation studies, protocol development, and book chapters with the guidance of our faculty.

Our dedication to education extends to continuing education for our faculty and APPs. Grand Rounds, Visiting Professorships and presentations at both local and national conferences ensure our department remains at the forefront of cutting-edge research and integrating the latest evidence-based practices.
