Overview
Dr. Varun Channagiri is a board-certified anesthesiologist and interventional pain management physician who specializes in treating cancer-related pain, chronic musculoskeletal pain, and spine pain. He uses evidence-based, minimally invasive techniques to help patients manage pain, maintain function, and improve quality of life throughout cancer treatment and survivorship.
Dr. Channagiri earned his medical degree from the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. He completed his anesthesiology residency at Rutgers University–New Jersey Medical School in Newark and advanced fellowship training in pain medicine at The Mount Sinai Hospital/ Icahn School of Medicine in New York. His training emphasizes precision-based interventional pain care and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Before joining Moffitt Cancer Center, Dr. Channagiri served as an assistant professor for three years at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center. There, he cared for patients with complex pain conditions and worked closely with surgeons, primary-care physicians, rehabilitation, and medical specialists. This team-based approach continues to guide his practice at Moffitt. He was also involved in educating residents and fellows in the Department of Anesthesiology at Columbia University Medical Center. For his educational contributions, he was recognized as Teacher of the Year in Regional Anesthesia for the 2024 academic year.
Dr. Channagiri’s clinical expertise includes fluoroscopic-guided interventional spine procedures, cancer pain interventions, ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve and joint injections, neuromodulation therapies such as spinal cord and peripheral nerve stimulation, and minimally invasive spine procedures. He also prioritizes patient safety and quality improvement to ensure consistent, high-quality care.
In addition to patient care, Dr. Channagiri has research interests in regional anesthesia, neuromodulation, peripheral nerve stimulation, and multidisciplinary approaches to acute and chronic pain management. His work supports Moffitt’s mission to advance cancer care through innovation and collaboration.
Dr. Channagiri works closely with the multidisciplinary team of experts to develop individualized interventional pain management plans based on each patient’s diagnosis, treatment goals, and overall health.
