The multispecialty team in our Gynecologic Oncology Program develops highly individualized uterine cancer treatment plans guided by evidence-based clinical pathways. We offer the latest innovations in surgery, including minimally invasive, robotic and fertility-sparing techniques, as well as the newest options in chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy and immunotherapy.

Moffitt’s multispecialty approach to uterine cancer treatment means that every patient can benefit from multiple expert opinions in a single location that is only a few hours away from Fort Myers, Florida. With contributions from board-certified surgeons, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists who focus exclusively on treating cancers of the female reproductive system, our Gynecologic Oncology Program is widely recognized as one of the nation’s top cancer treatment centers.

Oftentimes, uterine cancer treatment involves a surgical procedure, such as a:

  • Hysterectomy — Removal of the uterus and cervix through the vagina or an incision in the abdomen
  • Radical hysterectomy — Removal of the uterus, cervix, a portion of the vagina and possibly the ovaries, fallopian tubes and some lymph nodes
  • Bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy – Removal of both ovaries and both fallopian tubes

When appropriate, Moffitt’s surgeons utilize the da Vinci® Surgical System, which is one of the latest evolutions of robot-assisted technology. This advanced tool facilitates a high level of surgical precision and control, allowing a surgeon to operate through a few small incisions, which can potentially minimize a uterine cancer patient’s recovery.

Moffitt also has a robust clinical trials program through which our patients can access promising new uterine cancer treatment options as soon as they become available. In recognition of our commitment to groundbreaking research, we have been named a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute, and we are the only cancer center based in Florida that has received this prestigious designation.
