TURP Boca Raton
If you live in Boca Raton, Florida, and require a transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), treatment is available from some of the most knowledgeable surgeons in the world at Moffitt Cancer Center, located just a short drive away in Tampa. We offer a comprehensive range of diagnostic, treatment and support services, and we never require referrals.Â
TURP is a minimally invasive procedure that removes tissue from the inner part of the prostate to resolve urinary problems or address a tumor. When the prostate becomes enlarged due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or a cancerous growth, the gland can press against the urethra, making urination difficult and painful. A TURP procedure can remove the excess tissue that has blocked the urethra, clearing a pathway for urine to exit the bladder. To perform a TURP, a surgeon will:Â
- Gently insert a resectoscope into the urethra
- Extend a small looped component from within the instrument
- Remove portions of the prostate using the extended loop
Moffitt’s talented surgeons also perform TURP for men with prostate cancer whose age or overall health prevents them from undergoing a prostatectomy. In these situations, a surgeon will perform TURP to remove cancerous tissue from the inner part of the prostate.Â
If you travel from Boca Raton, FL, to undergo a TURP procedure at Moffitt, you’ll receive treatment from surgeons, medical oncologists and other specialists who focus solely on treating prostate cancer.
