Vulvar Cancer Clinical Trials
Vulvar cancer clinical trials are ongoing at Moffitt Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center based in Florida. Through these important research studies, we are able to make promising new therapies available to our patients, allowing them to be among the first to benefit from exciting breakthroughs in cancer treatment.
Many vulvar cancer clinical trials focus on new treatment modalities to evaluate their effectiveness as compared to the current standard of care. At any given time, Moffitt may be conducting clinical trials of new:
- Drugs
- Combinations of existing treatments
- Approaches to radiation therapy
- Surgical techniques
- Ways to manage symptoms
- Prevention methods
Prospective clinical trial participants sometimes express concerns regarding the safety or the effectiveness of the drugs or therapies being used in clinical trials. However, it’s important to note that any therapies in clinical trials have already undergone rigorous testing prior to the clinical trial phase. To ensure patient safety, a clinical trial is required to conform to strict guidelines, and its compliance is continually monitored by an Institutional Review Board (IRB), an independent ethics committee formed with the goal of protecting patients.
Due, in part, to our outstanding national reputation, Moffitt has attracted some of the most talented scientists in the nation. These experts have come together to collaborate closely in a stimulating intellectual environment that fosters outstanding research initiatives. Through our multispecialty approach, we continue to gain ground in advancing the knowledge base about cancer and utilizing clinical trials to translate novel laboratory discoveries into viable treatment options for current and future cancer patients.
