General Description

The H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute, a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, is a non-profit institution located in Tampa, Florida. Moffitt's mission is to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer with a vision to create revolutionary breakthroughs and innovations that rapidly impact and save more lives. Education and training are fundamental to Moffitt's vision. In support of this, Moffitt is an academic training institution, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).  It is affiliated with the University of South Florida (USF) College of Medicine and provides training to medical students, residents, and fellows. Additionally, Moffitt Cancer Center’s Department of Pharmacy offers two ASHP-accredited residency programs: PGY1 Pharmacy and PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy.

Established in 2012, the Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency at Moffitt Cancer Center offers a 12-month program designed to build upon the Doctor of Pharmacy education and enhance clinical, research, leadership, and education skills. The PGY1 pharmacy resident will manage patients with diverse medical complications and will be actively involved with therapeutic decision making in an interdisciplinary environment. The PGY1 pharmacy resident will work closely with dedicated preceptors and participate in all aspects of advanced practice. Upon completion of the Moffitt PGY1 Pharmacy program, the resident will have gained the skills and confidence to practice independently in a variety of pharmacy settings, achieve board certification, and pursue a PGY2 specialty program or clinical pharmacy position on a national level.
