Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship
Program Description
The Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship is a one-year program. We accept one fellow per year. The training sites include Moffitt Cancer Center and Tampa General Hospital. The program is intended for physicians who are planning a career in investigative and consultative endoscopic oncology. Participants will receive training in advanced gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures and their application to the diagnosis and management of cancer.
The fellow will develop skills in the following:
- Endoscopic ultrasonography
- Therapeutic endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
- Ablation therapies for dysplastic epithelium
- Endoscopic mucosal resection and dissection techniques
- Enteral stent placement
- Special endoscopic imaging techniques
- Outpatient management of GI Oncology patients in a multidisciplinary fashion

Exposure to a Broad Array of Faculty Trained Across the U.S.
Training will occur primarily through mentorship in a setting of interdisciplinary oncology and will include the development and conduct of supervised short-horizon research projects and participation in house-staff teaching activities. Core curriculum education will occur through attendance at the Department of Gastrointestinal Oncology Fellowship Interdisciplinary Core Curriculum Conferences, utilization of the Section of Endoscopic Oncology online tools, and manuals developed for purposes of core curriculum education. The fellow will receive program support to attend the Gastrointestinal Cancer Symposium held annually in late January and jointly sponsored by the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology.
Research
The program will also provide (or help organize) support for the fellow to attend no more than one national specialty meeting during the course of the fellowship for purpose of presenting research conducted during the course of the fellowship. The fellow will also participate in the yearly Scientific Symposium through the process of abstract submission. The abstracts will be reviewed by a number of the teaching faculty and six abstracts will be selected for oral presentation. This is mandatory for all fellows at Moffitt.
