Fellows have four different tracks to choose from, designed to meet their career goals and interests. Fellows will select their desired track at the end of the first year.

Clinical Educator

Regular teaching and mentoring activities: USF fellows, residents and medical students. USF Medical student teaching: mandatory. ASCO YIA submission

Clinical Investigator

Requires one investigator-initiated study protocol, participation in phase I/II Friday morning conferences, and ASCO YIA submission.

Laboratory Investigator

Requires one external grant or one internal grant application submitted per year, participation in regular laboratory meetings, and ASCO YIA submission.

Requires one investigator-initiated study protocol, regular participation in BMT/ICE-T clinical meetings and boards, and ASCO YIA submission

Clinical Educator Track

Publication Requirements
  • 1 abstract-MCC /USF conference/3 years
  • 1 national Hem or Onc meeting poster/oral presentation/3 years 
  • or 1 paper in a peer-reviewed journal: a review paper, a case report, a retrospective review/3 years
Second Year Fellows (PGY5) Dual Board Eligible (*on inpatient months max of two half days of clinics)
  • Clinical duties (consults/inpatient) - 9 months
  • Track duties (research time) - 3 months
  • *Continuity clinics - 2 half days; 1 half day MDC/Specialty; optional for more.
Third Year Fellows (PGY6) Dual Board Eligible (*on inpatient months max of two half days of clinics)
  • Clinical duties (consults, inpatient) - 9 months
  • Track duties (research time) - 3 months
  • *Continuity clinics - 2 half days + 4 addl half days. Total of 6 half days.

Clinical Investigator Track

Publication Requirements
  • 1 abstract: USF/MCC conference/year
  • 1 abstract at national/international research meeting/year
  • 1 original research paper in peer-reviewed journal/3 years

Laboratory Investigator Track

Publication Requirements
  • 1 abstract: MCC/USF conference/year
  • 1 ASH/ASCO poster/oral presentation/3 years
  • 1 original paper based on fellow’s lab research submitted to peer reviewed journal/3 years

  • Track duties (research time) - 12  months – lab required
  • *Continuity clinics - 2 half days
