If one thing can be said about Moffitt Cancer Center at Wesley Chapel, it would be growth. That is according to the facility’s medical director, Juskaran Chadha, MD

Since opening its doors in 2021, Moffitt at Wesley Chapel has expanded its inpatient collaboration with AdventHealth Systems and provided Moffitt cancer care to residents closer to their homes.

Chadha says patients using the Moffitt at Wesley Chapel facility are mostly from Wesley Chapel and surrounding areas like Zephyrhills and New Port Richey. However, some patients come from as far away as Ocala and The Villages. Most call the location in Wesley Chapel a time saver since they no longer have to commute to Moffitt’s Magnolia Campus in Tampa for their treatment.

Patients are able to receive their care close to home, which goes such a long way for the patient experience.

“That’s why we’re here,” said Chadha, who stepped into his role in 2024. “Patients are able to receive their care close to home, which goes such a long way for the patient experience.”

Moffitt at Wesley Chapel Advanced Practice Professional Manager Samantha Murphy says that since she joined the Wesley Chapel team, she’s seen both patient and staff volumes increase at the location.

Happy Staff, Happy Patients

“The patients seem to appreciate the convenience created by expanded advanced practice professional (nurse practitioners and physician assistants) coverage and often note the quicker access to appointments,” Murphy said.

Murphy adds that the coordinated work across the clinic and inpatient settings have made care easier to access and understand, even when the patient is admitted into a community hospital.

“Our growth has shown that no single team can do it alone,” Murphy said. “Consistent communication, shared goals and a willingness to support one another are what make our care exceptional.”

Building patient and professional relationships are an important key to Moffitt’s ongoing mission, according to Chadha. The medical community of Pasco County has embraced Moffitt’s presence, and many patients utilize dual health systems.

Pasco Presence

“We are here on the AdventHealth campus and that’s proven to be an amazing tool in expanding our inpatient collaboration with their system,” Chadha said. “Through our practice we’ve  improved patients’ experiences and have grown our facility to serve even more of the community. It’s been an organic collaboration. We work closely with them and they work closely with us. It’s a community.”

Moffitt at Wesley Chapel has seen a lot of change and challenges in its first five years. It opened at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and had to work with social distancing recommendations. It has also weathered multiple storms since its doors opened, including hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024.

“It’s a testament to our teamwork and partnerships,” Chadha said. “We are a multidisciplinary clinic and we’re part of a system that is driven by many different departments. But from the top, we’ve had support and have been welcomed into the Moffitt family with open arms. That translates to our patient care and those who come here for treatment know they have the backing of 40 years of Moffitt experience.”
