Moffitt Launches Podcast for Caregivers
At the Patient Library at Moffitt Cancer Center, caregivers often share their experiences and challenges with each other and the library team. Recognizing the importance to address these struggles, needs and hope caregivers routinely expressed, the staff was inspired to create a podcast.
"In It Together" is a heartfelt resource for caregivers created through a collaboration between Moffitt’s Patient Library, family advisors with Moffitt’s Patient and Family Advisory Program (PFAP) and the Social Work Department. With a focus on community, understanding and support, the podcast blends practical guidance with a sense of shared experience for those caring for loved ones with cancer.
“With ‘In It Together,’ we wanted to share genuine stories that caregivers can relate to,” said Jackie Beaushaw, Patient Library supervisor and member of the podcast’s production team. “Each episode features caregivers openly discussing topics like wound care and advance care planning. Our amazing guests have so much wisdom that they’ve learned through trial and error. I cannot say enough about how moving these stories are.”
In addition to practical advice, “In It Together” aims to address caregivers’ emotional needs. “We hope that when people listen, they realize that it’s OK to seek support, that it’s OK to have a hard time with caregiving,” Beaushaw added. “Caregiving is challenging, but they’re not alone, and there’s help available.”
Listeners are encouraged not only to draw inspiration from the podcast but also to explore other support options in their lives, whether that’s talking with friends, joining support groups or even reaching out for counseling.
“This podcast stands out for its genuine, back-and-forth conversations between two people. Our host, Donna DiClementi, manager of Outpatient Social Work at Moffitt, excels at meeting caregivers where they are. Our goal is to encourage guests to share their true selves, and that authenticity is something we believe many listeners will connect with,” Beaushaw said.
“In It Together” empowers caregivers to seek the support they need by cultivating a safe environment for open dialogue. As it continues to evolve, the production team aims to include a diverse array of voices and experiences, allowing caregivers to find stories that resonate deeply with their own journeys.
