Leaders gather to celebrate the grand opening of the Moffitt Speros Outpatient Center.

LAND O’ LAKES, Fla. — Moffitt Cancer Center celebrated a historic milestone in expanding cancer care in Florida with the grand opening of the Moffitt Speros Outpatient Center. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place at Speros, the 775-acre innovation hub where science, technology and patient care converge in the fight against cancer. The new 120,000-square-foot outpatient facility brings advanced, patient-centered cancer care closer to communities in Pasco County and the greater Tampa Bay region.

The event brought together leaders from Moffitt and Speros, local and state elected officials, community partners and supporters to commemorate the opening of the center, which will begin treating patients on Jan. 26, 2026.

“The opening of the Moffitt Speros Outpatient Center is about access, innovation and hope,” said Patrick Hwu, M.D., president and CEO of Moffitt. “This facility allows us to deliver the highest level of outpatient cancer care in a setting designed around the needs of patients and families, while advancing our broader vision for Speros as a destination for discovery and lifesaving treatment.”

Located in the heart of the Speros campus, the outpatient center will offer comprehensive cancer services, including screenings, imaging, infusion and specialty clinics. The building is also home to the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Proton Therapy Center, Tampa Bay’s first proton therapy treatment center, which is expected to open to patients in June 2026.

Made possible by a transformational gift from the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation, the new proton center is part of a larger vision to bring the world’s best technology and treatments to Moffitt patients close to home. Proton therapy is the most advanced form of radiation therapy. It uses advanced technology to precisely target tumors while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.

“This opening represents the promise of Speros becoming a place where world-class care, research and innovation converge,” said Josh Carpenter, D.Phil., president of Speros. “The Moffitt Speros Outpatient Center is the front door for patients seeking exceptional care and a tangible example of what this campus was envisioned to achieve for the region and beyond.”

During the ceremony, speakers highlighted the center’s role in improving patient access to leading-edge cancer treatments and its contribution to establishing Speros as the global epicenter for cell and gene therapies, immunotherapies, radiopharmaceuticals, proton therapies and other expanding technologies.

Backed by $600 million in active construction and $1.1 billion in capital investment, Speros is purpose-built to fuel scientific breakthroughs, deliver world-class cancer treatment and create long-term economic growth in Florida. The campus is projected to create more than 11,000 quality jobs over the next decade and establish Florida as a national leader in the life sciences and bioeconomy sectors.

Project partners include Barr & Barr Inc., Horus Construction, Hammes Company and DLR Group | Tsoi Kobus Design. Moffitt broke ground on Speros in January 2023 and is the anchoring tenant for the 775-acre campus.
