Moffitt urgent care clinic

The Acute Cancer Care (ACC) is a 24-hour clinic dedicated to caring for Moffitt patients who need same-day urgent care related to their cancer treatment.

Our team includes ER-trained physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners who specialize in managing symptoms such as fever, nausea, vomiting and uncontrolled pain so you can receive timely care in a supportive setting.

ACC is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Patients must contact their clinic team using the Patient Care Hotline at 813‑745‑8000 before coming to ACC.

Read more below for frequently asked questions.

  • Is Moffitt’s Acute Cancer Care an emergency room?

No. ACC is not an emergency room or emergency department. It is designed to treat urgent symptoms related to cancer treatment.

For serious or life-threatening conditions such as chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke symptoms, major injuries, or uncontrolled bleeding, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

  • Can I walk into the Acute Cancer Care without an appointment?

No. Patients should contact their Moffitt care team before coming to ACC so the team can help determine the most appropriate next step for care.

If you are experiencing urgent symptoms related to your cancer treatment, your care team may direct you to ACC. Please call the Patient Care Hotline at 813‑745‑8000.

  • When should I expect to be roomed?

Room placement depends on bed availability and how urgent your medical needs are. Our care team will assess your condition first and place you in a room as soon as possible based on clinical priority.

  • My care team called ahead - will a room be ready?

Not always. Bed placement is based on availability and the urgency of your condition when you arrive.

  • Why might there be a longer wait time?

We understand that waiting can be stressful. Our team works to care for every patient as safely and efficiently as possible. Wait times can vary depending on the number of patients being seen, the complexity of care needed and overall capacity.

  • Why are patients who arrived after me being seen first?

Patients are seen based on the urgency of their condition, not the order of arrival. This ensures those who need immediate care are treated first.

  • What should I expect if Acute Cancer Care is at full capacity?

Our care team will assess your condition through triage and determine the most appropriate next steps. Bed placement is based on medical need, and we will work to care for you as quickly and safely as possible.

  • What is outside Acute Cancer Care's scope?

ACC is not intended for serious or life-threatening conditions such as trauma, heart attack symptoms, stroke, major injuries, or uncontrolled bleeding.

For these conditions, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

  • How do I know where to go for care?

    The following guidelines can help:

    • Need care NOW: Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department
    • Need care TODAY: Come to ACC for urgent cancer-related symptoms. Call the Patient Care Hotline at 813-745-8000 before coming to the ACC.
    • Can wait: Follow up with your Moffitt care team or call the Patient Care Hotline at 813-745-8000 for guidance.

If you are unsure, please contact your care team for guidance.
