The Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Immunotherapy (BMT-CI) Fellowship Program at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, is a one-year fellowship providing clinical training in blood and marrow transplantation and immune cell therapy. Our clinical and research faculty members provide outstanding learning opportunities for fellows in both transplantation and immune cell therapy. In addition to our numerous transplant clinical trials, we have numerous open trials utilizing adoptive cell therapy, including CAR-T, bispecific antibodies, marrow-infiltrating lymphocytes and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes for hematologic malignancies and solid tumors.

The BMT-CI Program performs about 750 transplants and cell therapy procedures annually, including autologous and allogeneic transplants, CAR T and novel cellular therapies. Opportunities exist for clinical and laboratory research in cancer, transplantation and cell therapy biology, including GVHD prevention, relapse prevention and immunotherapy. Since the program's inception in 1988, we have trained more than 42 physicians in transplantation and cellular therapy. Most of our graduates are now working in prestigious academic institutes throughout the country.

Graduating fellows will be able to:

Provide their patients with the highest quality of care in HCT and cellular therapies.

Diagnose and manage post-transplant and cellular therapy complications, including GVHD and immune-mediated toxicities such as CRS and ICANS.

Design and conduct clinical trials and research studies in the field of transplant and cellular therapy.

Clinical Training Opportunities:

Opportunities to rotate on our two inpatient BMT services, dedicated inpatient CAR-T/ICE-T service, outpatient transplant service, outpatient CAR-T/ICE-T service, Apheresis and Rhotopheresis service, BMTCI Infectious Disease Service, Blood Bank and HLA service
Fellows may have two half days of continuity BMT and ICE-T clinics
Up to 3-4 half days per week for education/research during all outpatient rotations

No weekends while on outpatient rotations
No evening or night calls/ coverage
Mandatory half-day per month for wellness

Research Opportunities:

All faculty members engage in research programs, which include but are not limited to:

Dedicated research block of 6 weeks-6 months, depending on the track
Diagnosis, prevention and treatment of graft-versus-host disease
Cellular therapies for leukemia
Haploidentical transplantation
Novel therapies and approaches for multiple myeloma
Immunotherapy and transplant for lymphoma
Relapse prevention studies following transplantation and cell therapy
Sickle cell anemia
Infectious complications of transplant
