The George Edgecomb Society

In 2017, Moffitt Cancer Center created the George Edgecomb Society so its donors could help ensure equitable health outcomes and the elimination of cancer health disparities affecting the Black community. Since then, this society has raised over $2 million in pledges and donations towards this cause.

For more information about the George Edgecomb Society, contact Dr. Clement Gwede at Clement.Gwede@moffitt.org.

M-CARES

The Moffit Catchment Area Research Enhancement Support (M-CARES) awards are supported through a generous donation from Ms. Loretta Lee. This internal funding mechanism supports pilot projects that address a cancer health priority relevant to Moffitt’s catchment area, and projects that include a community organization are prioritized. M-CARES awards are the first internal funding mechanism at Moffitt to prioritize research projects that include community organizations.

For more information about M-CARES, contact Allison Nguyen at Allison.Nguyen@moffitt.org.

Call For Projects

The 2025 M-CARES funding opportunity is now calling for applications! COE-SCORE invites investigators to apply for the 2025 Moffitt Catchment Area Enhancement Support (M-CARES) Awards ($75K / 1 year awards). The purpose of this pilot funding program is to support research pilot projects that seek to address unique aspects of cancer that disproportionately affect minority and underserved populations or have been identified by the community as cancer-related needs or priorities. Projects that include community organizations within the catchment area and have clear potential to lead to future extramural grant funding will be given preference.

For help identifying a community partner, please contact Dr. Jenny Vidrine at Jennifer.Vidrine@moffitt.org or Allison Nguyen at Allison.Nguyen@moffitt.org.

Please review the M-CARES Award Guidelines for instructions and use the M-CARES Award Application for submission. Applications are only for Moffitt faculty and staff.

M-CARES applications are due September 10, 2025, by 4 p.m.
