What started out as a normal day at Moffitt Cancer Center quickly turned into anything but for patients at Moffitt McKinley Hospital and the McKinley Outpatient Center on Sept. 29.

Sixteen members of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2026 rookie class stopped at patient bedsides to say hello, shake hands, share stories and provide plenty of laughs. Their presence brought an energy that could be felt throughout the day as they made their way through Moffitt, handing out fist bumps and creating memorable moments for patients, caregivers and team members.

The visit concluded at Moffitt’s Child Development Center, where the players met the cancer center's youngest Moffitteers. A whirlwind of fun followed, as the rookies and children played basketball, sang "The Itsy-Bitsy Spider" and danced their way through the day. Laughter filled the playgrounds as students eagerly showed off their moves and the players enthusiastically joined in.

While the rookies may have come to brighten the day of Moffitt patients and families, they left with smiles of their own. Their visit served as a powerful reminder that moments of connection, kindness and joy can make a lasting impact, especially during life's most challenging times.
