Jennifer Wargo, MD, of MD Anderson Cancer Center, discusses how tumor and gut microbiomes influence immunotherapy response.

This year, the Distinguished Lecturer Symposium hosted by the Moffitt Postdoctoral Association at Moffitt Cancer Center featured Jennifer Wargo, MD, of MD Anderson Cancer Center

The annual event is held to create connections between researchers, prioritizing the importance of collaboration and mentorship in science.

Wargo gave a keynote address on “Targeting the Microbiome To Promote Health and End Cancer.” The presentation highlighted joint research efforts focused on analyzing a connection between the gut microbiome and patient responses.

The discussion included information about helpful practices specialists can take to better serve patients such as increasing dietary fiber intake and avoiding broad-spectrum antibiotics during certain treatments.

Attendees were given the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session after the presentation.
