Volunteer holding hands with patient

The Comfort Companion Program offers patients the most valuable of human gifts: a dignified death. Trained volunteers will provide a comforting, reassuring presence for patients and families. Sometimes this involves holding their hand, reading aloud, or playing soothing music.

You must be a current volunteer or current Moffitt Team Member to apply.

What to Expect:

Flexible shifts (based on your availability) that will typically last for three hours. Training and ongoing support are provided, with an emphasis on providing comfort during the dying process. Shifts are scheduled 24 hours a day, so night and weekend availability are necessary.

The application process will include an electronic application and in-person training.

Applicants must be 18 or older at the time of application, be a current Moffitt volunteer or current Moffitt team member.

  • Step 1– Complete the electronic application. The application will be open 8 a.m., Monday, September 29, 2025, to 4:30 p.m., Friday, October 10, 2025.
  • Step 2– Must attend the mandatory in-person training on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the SRB Ferman Family Conference Room. This is the only training offered for this application period.
