Moffitt Cancer Center and Natera Launch Research Collaboration on MRD-Guided Precision Medicine
TAMPA, Fla. — Moffitt Cancer Center announced today a new collaboration with Natera regarding a series of studies on blood-based molecular testing in cancer care.
The alliance brings together Moffitt’s clinical and translational research expertise with Natera’s molecular diagnostics platform, which includes its Signatera test for the detection of molecular residual disease (MRD). The collaboration spans multiple clinical trials that leverage personalized molecular insights provided by Signatera, designed to inform monitoring, risk assessment and treatment planning. The companies will evaluate how MRD testing can be applied across a broad range of solid tumors and hematologic malignancies, including its role in informing clinical decision-making in lung, breast, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, gynecologic, head and neck, skin and rare cancers.
Moffitt researchers will use Signatera MRD testing to help identify and stratify patients, including those at higher risk of recurrence who may benefit from additional therapy as well as those who may be able to avoid unnecessary treatment and its associated side effects.
“One of the biggest challenges in oncology is determining which patients are likely to benefit from additional treatment and which are not,” said Ignacio Wistuba, M.D., chair of the Department of Translational Pathology at Moffitt. “This collaboration gives us an opportunity to generate the data needed to better understand how molecular signals detected in the blood can help inform care decisions.”
“We’re pleased to partner with Moffitt to transform how cancer is managed,” said Solomon Moshkevich, President, Clinical Diagnostics, at Natera. “These trials are designed to make MRD-guided precision medicine the new standard of care.”
