Overview
Dr. Shuyan Wei is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon specializing in breast cancer reconstruction, lymphedema surgery, and complex reconstruction of the trunk and extremities. She regularly cares for patients with breast cancer, lymphedema, sarcoma, and complex wounds, providing individualized reconstructive options throughout the cancer treatment journey.She has specialized expertise in implant-based and autologous tissue breast reconstruction, using advanced microsurgical techniques when necessary. For patients at risk for or living with lymphedema, she performs immediate lymphatic reconstruction following axillary lymph node dissection, vascularized lymph node transfer, and lymphovenous bypass. Dr. Wei also specializes in trunk and extremity wound reconstruction.A focus of her clinical research is improving lymphedema treatment and advancing breast reconstruction techniques, with particular interest in patient-reported outcomes and quality of life after reconstruction. She has received a National Institutes of Health (NIH) T32 Research Grant in recognition of research training and academic achievement.Dr. Wei earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Georgia and a medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. She completed General Surgery and Plastic Surgery residencies at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, while concurrently obtaining a Master’s in Clinical Research degree at the same institution. She completed a Microsurgery Fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.She is board certified in general surgery and board eligible in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
